At various times during the year, our team is looking for new members. Students who work with us receive on the job training in a professional office setting, mentorship from a professional staff team invested in the success of the student and will develop skills to carry them forward into a career after graduating from Washington State University. Students work on projects with various departments throughout Student Affairs from University Recreation to Housing and Residence Life.

We are interested in students who have the drive to succeed, strong attention to detail, demonstrate a high level of responsibility, and a willingness to learn. Positions include graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and marketing assistants. 

We typically hire during the spring semester for the upcoming academic year. All listings, when available, can be found on Handshake, WSU's student employment website. 

  • Photographer

    Student Affairs Marketing is looking for a student photographer to work with our digital media team. This person will take photos and film some video to be used for marketing the Division of Student Affairs and its departments, including areas like University Recreation, Dining Services, Housing & Residence Life, Student Involvement, and Compton Union Building. Assignments could range from campus life to recreation to living and dining on campus, and much more. Photography will occur at events during shift hours and on evenings and weekends, staged photo shoots, and portrait sessions.
    This person should be comfortable using a DSLR camera for photography and Adobe editing software such as Lightroom and Photoshop. They should also conduct themselves professionally in the office and in the field. Training about departments, branding, and specific photo styles will be provided upon hire. There will be opportunities to learn and utilize lighting equipment, time-lapse, and other technical skills. Opportunities for some cinematography will also be available.
    This position will work 8-15 hours per week with office hours and availability to cover events outside of shifts on evenings and weekends.
    This position is for spring 2022, with preference for students who can stay in the position for at least two semesters. Summer work may be available.

  • Social Media Marketing Intern

    Student Affairs Marketing is looking for social media marketing interns to help develop creative and engaging content for our social media channels and contribute to marketing materials created for our departments. We're looking for students who are passionate about social media and marketing, excited about the potential to communicate to peers, and driven to create high-quality and error-free content.
    As an intern, you’ll have the opportunity to work with departments like WSU Dining Services, Compton Union Building, University Recreation, Center for Student Organizations and Leadership, and more! You will help create social media content calendars, craft and schedule posts and stories, attend on-campus events, create digital media for social channels (like photo and video), report on analytics, and brainstorm campaigns. You may also be asked to assist with campaign development, website updates, and other marketing tactics. Students in this position can expect to learn about the brands of WSU, the Division of Student Affairs, and respective departments and will be expected to maintain branding in all content.
    We're looking for someone who is able to stay up-to-date on trends and find new and exciting ways to reach student audiences at WSU. A successful candidate will be able to display excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to handle multiple responsibilities at once, possess basic computer skills, and have a willingness to learn. This position can expect to submit projects for review and incorporate feedback from their supervisor into final products.
    Students in this position will be expected to work a set schedule of 10-15 hours per week and balance work duties with school and other obligations outside of shift time. Students will have the chance to work collaboratively with other marketing students and professional staff. Training on specific duties and resources will be provided.
    Interns may also be responsible for assisting with office duties such as answering telephones, taking messages and greeting customers, and being knowledgeable about campus and resources within student affairs.
    Opportunities for summer work may be available.
    Job Duties:
    ·      Create content and/or digital media (photos, video, and potentially graphics) for social media platforms including: Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, Instagram stories and potentially more. Assist in managing social media platforms using an annual social media plan and set guidelines.
    ·      Work evenings and weekends to cover events for social media.
    • Assist marketing team with brainstorming and campaign development
    • Write content for marketing campaigns, websites, emails
    • Receive feedback from supervisor and work through edits.
    • Assist with material intake and distribution across campus
    • Help manage inventory and stock of promotional items, signage, etc.
    • Gather feedback from peers
    • Track and analyze data from marketing and social media campaigns
    • Collaborate with fellow interns as well as graphic designers, videographers & photographers
    • Attend staff meetings, trainings and in-service.
    • Adhere to all department guidelines and policies.

  • Graphic Designer

    Student Affairs Marketing is looking for a graphic designer to join our design team. This person will create visual designs and illustrations for materials including posters, social media, promo items, and banners for the departments within Student Affairs (including University Recreation, Cougar Health Services, the Women's Center, and others). They will be responsible for their projects from conception to finish, including preparing and sending to print.
    This person should be familiar with Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator. They should have a basic knowledge of graphic design and artistic skill that can be demonstrated via their portfolio. Extensive training by an experienced designer will be provided with significant feedback and professional development available. A creative, artistic eye and a willingness to learn will be necessary for success in this position.
    This position will require 8-12 hours per week of office hours, typically scheduled between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Summer and school break hours are available.
    Position is for Fall 2022 but can start during Summer 2022 if preferred.
